CSVA: The Pulse of Football Technology

With technology flooding the football industry, it was only a matter of time before programs began diving head first into video editing systems in an effort to increase the odds of building a championship program.

Since its inception in the early 90s, the objective of the Collegiate Sports Video Association has been to promote the role of the video coordinator position in the sports industry.

The CSVA allows everyone associated with sports video editing to become a member. Not only are full-time coaches and video coordinators eligible to join, but part-timers and students are also welcomed and encouraged to join the association as well.

The goal of the CSVA has always been to evaluate professional standards among those in the industry, facilitate the exchange of information and technological innovations, advance the ethical procedures and quality techniques and to raise the overall awareness of the role that the video coordinator plays within the athletic community.

“I encourage all coaches that are involved in their program’s video department, including high school coaches, to go the web site (www.csva.com) and check us out,” said CSVA President Steve Pohl. “As technology grows there always needs to be a place for people involved in our industry to get the latest information, to access exhibitors and retailers and to just have a way to converse with others in the field.”

The CSVA also offers an annual convention, usually held the third weekend in May, to showcase the latest products and provide educational seminars, which range from video editing system use to retirement and investing options.

“We try to provide an overall experience for our members at the convention, which has grown each year,” said Pohl. “We also hold an awards banquet to honor video coordinators of each conference and an overall video coordinator of the year winner. Our convention is a great place to take in some golf, enjoy exhibits and make some new friends.”
