Astro Boy CGI Animated Movie In 2009

Imagi Animation Studios, who made the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have decided to tackle a new genre by doing Astro Boy, a CGI movie based on the famous manga character created by the god of manga Osamu Tezuka.

The film is directed by David Bowers and Freddy Highmore (from the Spiderwick Chronicles) has been selected for voicing Astro Boy.

The Plot:
"Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving man's expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who had rejected him." (Source: Wikipedia)

I wonder if making a new Astro Boy is worth it... Well that is, unless they apply the successful reboot recipe of Christopher Nolan to Astro Boy. I'm inclined to think that's what Imagi is trying when I look to their concept art of Astro Boy:

But i fear they're going to remake the same starry-eyed hero:

Shall see what path they've decided to follow when the first teaser trailer of Astro Boy will be released.
