On May 10, 2012 New Jersey held the The 32nd New Jersey Governor’s Awards in Arts Education. Our Berklee City Music Network site, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, produces some of the most talented students, so we were not surprised to hear of one of their own winning the distinguished Excellence in Jazz Award.

In addition to this achievement, Brittany Henderson, of Benedictine Academy, will be attending the 2012 Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Program as a City Music Summer Scholarship participant, as well as attending Berklee full time in Fall 2012.

Jeffrey Griglak, Director of Arts Training in the Arts Education Department at NJPAC said this about Brittany:

“Brittany Henderson is being honored with the 2012 NJPAC Excellence in Jazz New Jersey Governor’s Award due to the fact that she is an exceptionally talented young vocalist with a bright and promising future.”

Brittany said this about her achievement and her plans for the future:

“I was ecstatic, thrilled beyond words, and very humbled. Grateful to my mentors and instructors who have brought me to this point, and enthusiastic to learn and do more.”

“Berklee was my number one choice. When I found out that I got in for the fall semester I was ecstatic. I hope to major in film scoring and minor in vocal jazz music for the fall of 2012.”
