Using the U132 with a Verizon PC5740 CDMA Card

Verizon PC5740 CardVerizon wireless supply the PC5740 CardBus card to connect to their EVDO CDMA network. This card is compatible with the U132, but because the Verizon "VZAccess" dashboard software does not currently support operation via the U132, it is necessary to make a manual connection to the Verizon network.

Points To Note

When setting up a manual connection to the Verizon network, you can follow our guide to setting up a manual connection, but for Verizon no APN is required. (So when you come to the last stage, you do not need to enter any CONTID information.)

The Verizon network requires each card to be configured before it can connect to the network. Normally the VZAccess software automatically carries out this configuration process, but because the VZAccess software does not recognise the card in the U132 it cannot be done in this way. This means that a brand new PC5740 card will not connect to the Verizon network via the U132. To use the card in your U132, you can either configure it yourself (using the VZAccess software in another machine) or ask your Verizon dealer to do it for you. If you've been previously using your card in another computer it will already be configured and you don't have to worry about this step.

Connecting to Verizon

  • The phone number to connect to Verizon's network is "#777".
  • The "User name:" is the 10-digit phone number assigned to the modem card plus "@vzw3g.com" such as 1234567890@vzw3g.com. The 'Password:" is "vzw".
  • Before clicking on "Finish" on the last page, put a check in the box in the middle of the window to "send a copy to the desktop as a shortcut".

Troubleshooting

If you are using the PC5740, it may repeatedly connect and disconnect immediately. The fix is as follows:

  • REMOVE the PC5740 from the U132, then,
  • DISCONNECT the U132 prior to copying the file to your hard disk drive.
  • Download the latest elu132.sys file and unzip it in a temporary directory.
  • Copy the elu132.sys file into the "c:\windows\system32\drivers" sub-folder.
  • Reconnect the U132.
  • Reinsert the PC5740 into the U132.

If your PC has a wireless local area network (WLAN) device installed, disable it prior to clicking on the manually created Verizon Dial-up Connection icon. If any connection problem still occurs, disable any firewall running on your PC (especially McAffee or Norton Internet Security).
