UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty apologized for the chaos after cyber attackers targeted one of its companies, Change Healthcare, in February 2024. Mr. Witty's apology came as he testified during a public hearing before the Senate Finance Committee. UnitedHealth Group is the largest health care insurance company in the U.S., and one of the largest companies in the world. As he departed the more than two-hour long hearing, protesters confronted the CEO. Mr. Witty was also scheduled to testify before a House subcommittee on the same day.

Ralph Puckett Jr. to the Capitol," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) during remarks at the Capitol where the late Korean War veteran was lying in honor. Puckett, who received the Medal of Honor from President Biden in 2021, passed away at the age of 97 on April 8, 2024, at his home in Columbus Georgia.

The Atlantic Council held a series of discussions focusing on the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington, DC. In this session U.S., British and German diplomats spoke about each of their countries defense priorities, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and other global security challenges on the horizon. Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and retired U.S. Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit Judge Michael Luttig sat down for a conversation on the state of democracy hosted by the American Bar Association. Judge Luttig was outspoken about the January 6 Capitol attack's negative impact on democracy, having testified before the House select committee tasked with investigating January 6. This discussion was a part of the bar association's annual conference in Washington, DC.
The Arizona Senate voted to repeal an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions in the state. Two Republicans joined 14 Democrats to repeal it. This 1864 law came into the limelight after the state Supreme Court ruled in April 2024 the law was still applicable and outlawed nearly all abortions. Members from both parties described the impacts of miscarriages, played recorded audio of heartbeats from the womb, and raised concerns about the age of the law as they passionately expressed the reason for their vote and, at times, criticized the votes of their colleagues. In addition, visitors in the gallery could be heard interrupting members.
President Biden delivered remarks on infrastructure and jobs at the Wilmington Convention Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. He explained how his administration was investing in these endeavors by creating jobs to replace lead pipes as well as to remove "forever chemicals" in water known as PFAS. The president also promoted his record on the economy, health care, and other issues. At the beginning of his remarks, he paid tribute to four officers who were recently killed during a shootout in Charlotte. President Biden was introduced by a local second-grade teacher, Paris Pugh.
